The R 1150 R is a motorcycle model from the Bavarian manufacturer BMW.
Replacing the R 1100, the R 1150 range appeared in 2001.
The engine is an evolution of that of the 1100, the bore gains 2 mm, which allows the displacement to climb to 1,130 cm3, and to gain 5 hp. The box goes to six gears.

When it appeared, the 1150 took up most of the characteristics introduced by its predecessor, adding an additional 45 cc, a new injection law and above all second-generation full ABS.
Its 6-speed gearbox facilitated travel with a long last gear, allowing the engine speed to be reduced at cruising speed.
Frein EVO
The BMW R 1150 RT is fitted as standard with the EVO brake, the latest front brake development from BMW. This new 4-piston fixed-caliper brake has two larger discs (320 mm) each comprising 2 more generously sized pistons for supreme braking power, perfectly adjustable between soft braking and full braking. The gear ratio has been increased, which has considerably reduced the effort required by the pilot. Thus, the same effort at the handle releases braking power 20% greater than that obtained with conventional brakes.
BMW shaft drive
The universal joint is characteristic of BMW motorcycles powered by a Boxer engine. This drive concept makes sense for two reasons.
First, cardan transmission is the best solution for transmitting engine torque, directly and without losses, from the crankshaft, placed in the axis of the motorcycle, to the rear wheel. Secondly, the gimbal is particularly reliable, has a long service life and requires little maintenance.
Telelever BMW
The BMW Telelever, which combines the advantages of a telescopic fork with those of a swingarm, takes care of the front wheel suspension. In addition to the great driving comfort offered, the Telelever guarantees optimum road holding, high longitudinal rigidity and effectively compensates for dive under braking. The Telelever also creates the ideal conditions for efficient use of BMW Integral ABS.

The -P version (for Police) is called in France model administration. This version, object of acquisitions by the state (gendarmerie, police, customs, republican guard, ...) as soon as it was released, has traveled our roads for many years. Thus, the Departmental Road Safety Squadrons were equipped with it from 2001 to 2005.
In the United States, the police and more particularly the famous California Highway Patrol (CHP) equipped themselves with R1100-RT-P which they replaced in 2001 by the R1150-RT-P model.
In France, the most widespread transformation is to start from an administration model (-P) to transform it into a two-seater (with a passage to the mines for updating of the gray card).
This implies (in a synthetic way):
In my case, the opposite will be done!
With an additional constraint: Allow in a few tens of minutes, to return to a two-seater version!
So, at the start, there is a BMW R1150-RT, from 2002, color light gray.
And the project is to aesthetically transform it into a California Highway Patrol (CHP) BMW R1150-RT-P.
For this, 5 important steps:

For aesthetic reasons, I changed the indicators and the rear light to LED elements (admittedly, a historical error, but it's so much more beautiful!).
A 2002 motorcycle that has been driven (even if it only had 45,000 km on the odometer), shows certain traces of use that it is best to remove before any painting action. In my case, an engine that had overheated on a summer day when stopped had somewhat damaged the fairing on its lower part... And so, fiberglass and sanding operation... Erwan (whom you will discover in the painting stage), will also later have to sand again certain parts that use had made him suffer... It's crazy the number of imperfections that appear as soon as a surface is repainted!
This stage is first of all a beautiful encounter. I had been following for a few years, on Facebook, an airbrush painter who had set up a school in Sucé-sur-Erdre (near Nantes, France).
Erwan ROBERT, who directs RBT Création, is a passionate, talented and exciting artist. He immediately understood and embraced my BMW CHP project.
Found within breakage or via Ebay, the parts to be changed were as follows...
Addition of two-tone lights (blue and red), sirens, and other complementary accessories...
Addition of a harness connecting the front to the rear trunk.
Addition of a 2nd battery (recharged by the main battery) dedicated to the lights, the siren and the CB in the trunk.
On the base of chrome protection from an administration-type motorcycle, it was necessary to sand the recovered parts, to adapt, chrome, and install ...
Work on the installation of chrome was carried out in September 2020.
